In March, 1934, while my son and I were motoring to another state, the car skidded on an icy highway and dropped down an embankment. Although it appeared I had been injured, I denied that anything had happened to me.
While riding in another car to our destination, my son, who is a pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School, said to me, "Mother, one with God is a majority, and there are two of us and we know that you are all right." This meant a great deal to me, and I held to the thought that I was all right. However, word was sent to a practitioner for help, and the following day we returned home.
I experienced no fear relative to the incident and endeavored to remain as calm as possible, declaring, "I am not afraid." An earlier experience in Christian Science enabled me to make this declaration, for I had learned then to stand firm in the truth.
Since my husband is not a Scientist, it seemed right to call a physician. Upon his arrival he suggested that an X ray be taken. This showed a badly broken collarbone and other injuries. He advised my removal to a hospital, where other X rays were taken. To the surprise of all, there was shown a perfect setting of the bones, which relieved me of all medical treatment excepting a bandage. I returned to my home in two days. During this time, constant work by the practitioner had met every suggestion so completely that I felt at peace with God, and was conscious of His presence and power. I was quickly released from medical supervision, and was soon enjoying normal freedom.
This experience was a glorious opportunity to prove my faith in the power of divine Love to meet every condition which may arise in our human experience, and for this I am most grateful. This healing was a convincing demonstration of mental surgery.
Words fail to express fully my love and gratitude to God, to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for Christian Science, and to the faithful practitioner for her love and understanding of this wonderful truth. I am also very grateful for the love and peace that come through the daily study of our Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. —
