With my heart overflowing with gratitude for the many blessings that have come to me from the study of Christian Science I give this testimony. I had been a member of an orthodox church for years, but was always seeking to know God, who I felt was far off. About fifteen years ago, when I was a stranger in a large city, a neighbor said to me. "Good morning." In the course of the conversation which followed, I remarked that I spent most of my time reading because I knew no one there, and she asked if I would like to read a book she had. I said. "Yes, any good book." She brought me a copy of "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mary Baker Eddy, and when I returned it to her later, I told her it was the most beautiful book I had ever read. She then told me to get a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by the same author, and later on I had such a desire to read it that I purchased a copy. When I read the first chapter, on Prayer, I knew my quest had ended. I had found the "key" that unlocked the treasures of the Bible and would lead me to a knowledge of God. and since that day I have read the periodicals and studied the textbook. Science and Health, and Mrs. Eddy's other writings.

My first healing was a revelation of God's wonderful love. A condition had arisen which, before my coming into Christian Science, had twice called for an operation and caused me to spend a week in bed afterward. I told a practitioner about this and she said, "Whom do you wish to depend on, a doctor or God?" I thought a moment and then the words on page 231 of our textbook stood out before me, "What God cannot do. man need not attempt." I then quoted this passage and said, "I will choose God!" The next day I was completely healed and went about my work as usual.

About nine years ago I was left alone with a little business, a large indebtedness, and a young daughter to care for. God never failed me, and I was able to carry on the business, pay off all obligations, educate the daughter, and prove true the words of our beloved Leader on page 494 of Science and Health, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."
