Redemption from Sorrow

IN the vision of the Apocalypse, St. John saw a new heaven and earth, wherein "there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." The heaven alluded to is not some distant place to be reached at a future time, but is here now. Heaven is a state of spiritual harmony, wherein there is no grief or cause for grief, and man is aware of his divine status.

As we understand these spiritual facts, we realize that God, Love, is ever present to wipe away the tears of the mournful — to cheer, comfort, and bless — for as one of our beloved hymns declares (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 40), "Earth has no sorrow that Love cannot cure."

Loss and separation are included in the false sense of existence as finite and material, and constitute one of the major problems of human experience. Revealing the spiritual origin of man as God's likeness, Christian Science shows that there is no cause for sorrow. Mourning will cease when it is learned that life, which reflects Life, God, is perpetual.
