Among the Churches

Current Notes

Oceanside, California (First Church).—First Church of Christ, Scientist, Oceanside, was dedicated on Sunday, July 14, 1940. Morning and afternoon services were held.

Dedication of the church marked the completion of the meeting of all debt obligations incurred in construction of the church edifice in 1937. No Christian Science church can be dedicated until it is free of debt.

A portion of the history of the local church, as read at dedication services, follows: Christian Science Society of Oceanside was formed in 1924. Another earnest group, meeting in Carlsbad, was recognized as a Christian Science Society in 1931. In 1935, realizing that they might render a greater service to the community by a union of the two societies, the members conferred on the subject and voted to unite and establish First Church of Christ, Scientist, Oceanside, which was recognized as a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
