It is a joyous privilege to testify to the healing power of Christian Science, and to the many blessings that have come to me since I took up the study of this beautiful religion a number of years ago. Certain man-made laws declared that I could live only a few years at the longest, or that I might pass on at any moment. But these so-called laws were rendered null and void by "the word of God," which is "sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart," and which is all-powerful and ever present to bless and heal mankind. Through the loving help of a practitioner I was restored to health.
I had always had positions of responsibility, and my thought was very material. A few years after this wonderful healing there was an oil boom in our little city. I was in a business which was very profitable at the time. This kept me busy from early morning until late at night, and I took no time for study. Mortal mind in its subtlety led me on; it suggested that there would be plenty of time to study when business quieted down. I seemed to be in a race to make all the money I could before the recession in business. I forgot God. When we listen to mortal mind we are, as the Bible tells us, "beaten with many stripes." I truly was. I was in a gas explosion, which blew out a part of the house I was occupying. During the explosion, glass from a dresser mirror was embedded in my face and neck. My face, neck, ears, hands, and other parts of my body were very severely burned. It was even feared I should be blind. I was taken to a hospital for immediate necessary care. Here it was thought that I had one chance in a thousand. The physician in charge, however, knew of my former healing through Christian Science, and said that I could have anything I desired. An attendant immediately telephoned to a practitioner, and a Christian Science nurse was sent to me.
The nurse worked lovingly with the practitioner. They kept ever before my thought the allness of Spirit, God, good, and man in His image and likeness, spiritual, perfect. The Bible verse, "In him we live, and move, and have our being," was most helpful to me. I realized that, as God's child, I could not be burned; that the trouble was only the mortal belief of life in matter, apart from Him. The healing then took place. My eyes were not in the least impaired; the skin on my face, neck, and ears is now without the slightest blemish, and I have full use of every part of my body.
