Success in Spiritual Healing

Spiritual healing as practiced in Christian Science cannot be regarded as being in the experimental stage. People are to be found in all the civilized countries of the world who can testify to the relief they have received from this method of healing. Many of them can bear witness to the fact that they have been healed of grievous sickness through the understanding of the truth which Christian Science has given them. It is, moreover, clear to all who unbiasedly investigate the question for themselves, that such healings take place by rule, thus proving that the method is scientific. It is true that throughout the centuries healings have resulted from the exercise of exalted faith, but they were spasmodic, because not according to rule. Whereas, healings in Christian Science, being the result of understanding which is definitely scientific, are accomplished by invariable rule.

Success in spiritual healing is far more than a matter of knowledge of the letter of Christian Science; but this knowledge is important, and its fundamentals must first be learned. And what are these? They consist of an understanding of the nature of God, of the real man, and of so-called mortal man. God is revealed by Christian Science to be infinite good, and man to be His image. Hence man reflects good, and good alone. On the other hand, mortal man is declared by Christian Science to be an unreal or false concept of material sense, or mortal mind, as are all material phenomena, including sin, sickness, and death. The student of Christian Science who would heal the sick and the sinning, never fails to draw the distinction between the real man, the image or reflection of God, and supposititious mortal man.

In the healing work of Christian Science those basic spiritual truths are kept in mind. The Christian Science practitioner does not attempt to heal matter; he endeavors, rather, to establish in the consciousness of the patient the truth about the real man, confident that as this takes place healing will result. Thus, he affirms that man is perfect, that he is subject to perfect spiritual law, and that he knows only good. He denies that the real man is in any degree imperfect, that he is in any measure under so-called material law, and that he can know aught but good. In this way erroneous material sense is rebuked and overcome, and sickness, sin, or any other inharmonious condition healed.
