It is with a deep sense of gratitude and joy that I acknowledge the physical freedom and spiritual illumination gained through the application of Christian Science to a problem which confronted me and held me captive several years ago.

My legs were badly drawn up, at that time, and the muscles of my back had lost their elasticity. Only with difficulty could I manage to get about on crutches. My regular physician had been consulted and had treated me for some time without beneficial effect. I turned to a chiropractor for help, but gained no relief. One day, my regular physician recommended that I go to Louisiana, where a convention of physicians and surgeons was shortly to be held. There I was to be submitted to an examination, with the hope that at least one of those present would recognize the difficulty and recommend treatment for healing.

Before I left for the convention, a friend who had learned of my plans told me of Christian Science and of its gracious healing of physical disorder. He asked me to promise, if the doctors did not heal me, to go to the local Christian Science Reading Room and borrow and read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It was an easy promise to make, and I made it.
