A Religion of Joy

One of the tests of a religion is whether or not it meets the human need for happiness. Christian Science meets this demand by lifting thought above material beliefs into a higher mental altitude, into the spiritual realm of harmony and peace.

It is not logical to think that the unhappy experience or fear of discord, oncoming disaster, lack, and confusion can be our inheritance from God, the divine Principle of harmonious being. The human heart is longing for something that will bring a higher sense of joy in place of the stress and turmoil of recent years. The world needs to learn the nature of real joy and how to attain it.

Christian Science teaches that joy is spiritual, spontaneous, and is not dependent upon physical conditions. Inherent in infinite divine consciousness, this quality is native to man. It is akin to gratitude and love. The Psalmist declared, "In thy presence is fulness of joy." To attain true joy, then, we must gain a clearer sense of God's ever-presence; and Christian Science, following the teachings of the master Christian, enables us to do this by revealing the true nature of God and of man and his relationship to God.
