Twenty-six years ago Christian Science came into my life, and it is my desire to share with others some of the many blessings that have come to me and mine through its application, sometimes through our own understanding, and sometimes through that of a practitioner.
When I was a very young student of Christian Science, my small son became ill with sore throat and high fever. We were in a state of great fear, and my sister said we should get help at once, because my son's throat seemed to be almost closed. I ran to the telephone and called a practitioner. The truths which she voiced I do not remember now, but I recall very vividly that as she talked to me all sense of fear left me. During the conversation, which did not last for more than a few minutes, my son called to me that he wanted his supper, and would also like to get up. He ate a hearty meal, played about, was happy and normal, and from that time on was entirely free.
I have had numerous proofs of God's abundance when lack seemed to be present. Time after time I have proved that God is "a very present help in trouble." Many times I have been helped and comforted by these words from the Bible: "The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters," and, "Hitherto hath the Lord helped us." Error tried hard to convince me that the evidence of the material senses was real, but I clung to the truths that I had proved so many times before, and God has never failed me. I am most grateful for the healing of the habit of biting my nails, a habit which I had had for over forty years.
