Corrective Power of Right Ideas

In the realm of human experience, error is corrected by truth. Should one, for example, make a mistake in the working out of a mathematical problem, he rectifies the error by putting in its place the correct answer. Again, if a lie were told about a situation, and an erroneous impression made by the lie, the erroneous impression could be corrected by getting to know the truth about the situation. Human beings are constantly being called upon to correct conditions caused by false statements or false beliefs; and this they do by putting the true in the place of the false.

It is noteworthy that mankind generally has a leaning to veracity. And well for mankind that it has, since nothing is more demoralizing, more subversive of character, than false witness bearing to those who indulge in it. Not only so, but falsehood can be productive of enormous harm to others. Society recognizes this, and sometimes with marked unanimity its members will cast their stigma on the untrustworthy, the while they seek to correct, by means of right thinking, whatever has been deceptively put forward in the name of truth. A great deal of the time of the well-intentioned is taken up in correcting the falsities or mistakes of others, and in putting to rights the mischief caused by those errors.

It is, then, the necessity of enlightened thought to correct what is false or erroneous. And to this end, it should be the endeavor of men to become enlightened morally and spiritually. Great numbers are finding this enlightenment in the study of Christian Science, which reveals the nature of spiritual being and makes known the unreal nature of all that pertains to materiality. Those who have sincere regard for what is truthful, readily perceive the truths which Christian Science reveals. They accept these truths, and put them in the place of the erroneous concepts they previously held, thus destroying for themselves these false concepts.
