Gold Hill News

Gold Hill, Oregon (Society).—On Sunday evening, September 11, 1938, dedication services were held at the Christian Science church in Gold Hill. Many residents from all over the valley attended. The services were held following the payment of all expenses of the new church. Following is the dedication address [in part]:

Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 136), "Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing."

With this thought as a directing influence a small group of students of Christian Science assembled in the year 1931 in the Gold Hill Hotel dining room for Sunday morning services. These meetings continued for several months, until the hotel was rented and they were obliged to seek another location. The brick building back of this church was secured and served as a meeting place for over a year. Interest in Christian Science was growing to such an extent by the summer of 1934 that a decision was made to buy a lot and build a church. In July, 1937, a group of charter members formed Christian Science Society, Gold Hill.
