The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,"...

The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," has revealed to me the object as well as the purpose of our existence, and for this I am profoundly grateful to its inspired author, Mary Baker Eddy.

My interest in religion began during the Great War, when, on active service, I found myself for the first time giving an attentive ear to the simple addresses of the regimental chaplain. After the war I felt impelled to make an intensive study of the Scriptures, and I began to realize the tremendous import of Jesus' mission. I strove to pray as he prayed, and was overjoyed when I found the results far exceeding my expectations. I began to know what it was to hear God's voice. Nevertheless, for reasons then unknown to me, these experiences did not endure, and after a while the inspiration quite failed me. Discouraged and despondent, I went from one church to another, seeking to find the true way.

At last, in great tribulation, I attended service in an orthodox church, where I prayed fervently for enlightenment. Thereupon I heard a voice say, "Change your quarters," and I knew it was no human voice. I lost no time in obeying the injunction. In these new quarters I found the atmosphere—the understanding —I had so long sought. My friends proved to be Christian Scientists, and after attending a testimony meeting, I purchased a copy of the textbook. I had not read more than the first three chapters when I found I was cured of chronic indigestion, insomnia, and sick headaches, also of the habit of smoking. Since that time I have had ample proof that Christian Science is indeed the truth our great Master taught and practiced.
