Omnipresence

WHEN the small army of Israel under Ahab had defeated the host of Syria, as recorded in the twentieth chapter of I Kings, the Syrians concluded that the gods of the Israelites were "gods of the hills" only. Acting in accordance with this belief, they prepared a great army and sought a battleground in the low country. But the prophet voiced this message from God to the king of Israel: "Because the Syrians have said, The Lord is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the Lord."

Although the army of Israel was so small and seemingly insignificant that it was compared with "two little flocks of kids," whereas the Syrian army filled the country, the Israelites, supported by their trust in the omnipresence and omnipotence of God, defeated the great multitude of Syrians.

How significant and inspiring is this simple story, which illustrates the fact that: God is in every place, and that His power is just as available in the valleys as on the mountains!
