Several years ago, I had planned at two different times...

Several years ago, I had planned at two different times to take a little trip, and each time I was unable to go. The second time I felt very much discouraged, and asked a Christian Science practitioner for help. When I awoke the following morning I felt very weak and miserable. I tried to do some mental work, and then went over the ninety-first rsalm. Each promise I applied to myself. As I thought of the verses: "For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone," I received a great ileal of comfort. Then when I came to the verse, "Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet," I thought, That is just what these things are that come up to torment me; and it tells me right in this Psalm what to do: tread on them, trample them under feet. When I had finished thinking through and applying the Psalm, I was healed. I had been so interested in what I was thinking that I had completely forgotten about myself, and I was free.

I arose immediately and dressed. When I went downstairs, my sister asked me if I felt able to go with her for a short ride that day. I replied, "I can go anywhere." We went for an all-day automobile trip which we had wanted to take for some time, and we all had a happy day.

The daily study of our Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly has been most helpful. When "God the Preserver of Man," was the topic of the Lesson-Sermon, I had a wonderful demonstration of His protecting power. I had studied the Lesson all the week. On Saturday morning I was in a large public building and started to go down a long flight of stairs. In some way I missed the first step, lost my balance, and felt myself starting to fall forward. My first thought was of fear. Then I lifted my thought to God. The next thing I realized that I was standing at the top of the stairs. I had not fallen at all. I felt as if something were holding me so tight I could not move. Then I knew that divine Love had caught me, and held me so that I did not fall. I do not know how long I stood there; and as I looked down that long flight of stairs, and realized what I had escaped, my gratitude knew no bounds. I have been protected many times, and not only I myself, but members of my family also, have been protected in automobile accidents, fires, and a severe wind storm.
