What gratitude fills the human heart when one is able...

What gratitude fills the human heart when one is able to prove that God is All-in-all, and that there is no place where the truth of being cannot be so established in consciousness that the proof of healing is realized! What a debt the world owes to that spiritually-minded woman, Mary Baker Eddy, for her constant search of the Scriptures which led to her discovery of the Science of being, or Christian Science!

When cruising in the North Sea in the summer of 1937, I had great cause for rejoicing in an opportunity to prove the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement on page 402 of Science and Health, "Christian Science is always the most skilful surgeon." About six o'clock one evening I experienced severe throbbing in my left ear, accompanied by great pain and fever; but the remedy was already at hand in the teachings of Christian Science. The truth of God's omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient law was repeatedly, persistently, and constantly declared and clung to for about six hours; but the more the truth was declared the louder error screamed, till the pain seemed unbearable. In the moment of extremity these words of the Master came to my consciousness: "I can of mine own self do nothing." "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." I ceased arguing with the error, and Love and Truth flooded my consciousness. The ear immediately began to discharge freely, showing that an abscess had burst.

When the stewardess visited me the next morning, she called the ship's nurse, who immediately called in the ship's physician. Upon examining the ear, he appeared surprised and said, "An abscess has burst with as clear evidence of a surgeon's knife as I have ever seen, and, what is more, the ear is as thoroughly cleansed as if it had been washed out."

I have been a registered practitioner of Christian Science for about thirty years and have had many proofs of God's healing law. I have had the privilege of class instruction from a beloved student of Mrs. Eddy, who was one of the pioneer workers of the South. I can never be grateful enough for this clear teaching; and with a deep sense of gratitude and humility I am striving to use the blessed truth, revealed by our beloved Leader, for our greater appreciation of spiritual reality and for the redemption of mankind. I am grateful for the Christian Science organization, with its many branches, and for the daily, weekly, and monthly periodicals which go out to all the world. I am also grateful for the practitioners, teachers, lecturers, Readers, and the Board of Directors of The Mother Church, who are so loyal and faithful to the Cause of Christ as taught in Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Caroline Hardee Godfrey, Atlanta, Georgia.
