Nearly twenty years ago I left London for Canada, and...

Nearly twenty years ago I left London for Canada, and in 1923 came to the United States. I found myself a stranger in a strange land, at the end of my resources. One day I walked up and down my room, beseeching God to show me the way; telling Him I had been through many years of semi-invalidism, which I supposed He sent; that it was not because I had wasted my "substance with riotous living" that I had been brought to this pass. I had worked myself into a frenzied state, when, with great clearness the words came to thought, "In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength," and there came a great calm.

The next day I had proof of the prophecy of Isaiah, "And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear." I am a fully trained nurse, and a Christian Science practitioner called for my services for a woman suffering with acute neuritis. The patient was entirely healed in four days. I remained with her for two weeks for companionship, for she was alone in the house. During that time I read much to her, and in every available minute I read to myself from Science and Health and other writings by Mary Baker Eddy, our revered Leader.

On returning home I found with joy that the aperient medicines which had seemed necessary to my existence had not been touched for fully ten days. I had been healed of lifelong constipation of a very sever form.

I then reviewed the past fifteen years of my experience. I had been on the sick list for several months each year. I had had two major operations, namely, the removal of appendix and opening of the gall bladder. Two years after the second operation I was again in a hospital for observation. Then it was discovered that the trouble was of the circulation, and the verdict was pronounced, "There is no cure." I shall always remember with gratitude the unvarying kindness of doctors, surgeons, nurses, and many friends, during these times of trouble. But with discouraging medical prospects before me, I decided to appeal to Christian Science when an acute attack of laryngitis overtook me. After three days' treatment I was a well woman.

In the fourteen years since this healing, many ills have been overcome with the help of practitioners or through my own understanding. I am more than grateful for this wonderful truth, for membership in The Mother Church, and in a branch church in this city, and for the inestimable privilege of class instruction.
