Since my attention was first directed to Christian Science...

Since my attention was first directed to Christian Science, some sixteen years ago, I have been able to trace the steady unfolding of the divine plan in my experience. I cannot cease to be grateful to the friend who first introduced the subject of Christian Science to me in a letter, nor to the practitioner to whom I first turned for information. His work was so well done that in a short while I was able to dispense with glasses which I had worn for some twelve years. Business conditions, which had been far from congenial, steadily improved during the two years which followed, until an opportunity occurred naturally for me to leave this work for happier and more remunerative employement. A tendency to take cold each winter has been destroyed; and stomach weakness, alleged to be inherited, has been corrected; and with these physical ills many temperamental faults have disappeared. I have had to learn, too, from so-called losses as well as gains, and for these I am grateful.

Above all I am grateful for class instruction, which has quieted my doubts and philosophical questionings. I am grateful for every activity of The Mother Church and am especially grateful for The Christian Science Monitor, through which we get the world's news in true perspective. For the work and example of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I have the deepest respect, and endorse with conviction her words on page 118 of "Miscellaneous Writings," "Be of good cheer; the warfare with one's self is grand; it gives one plenty of employment, and the divine Principle worketh with you,—and obedience crowns persistent effort with everlasting victory."—G. Sydney Bird, North Shields, Northumberland, England.
