The Cost of Living

Confronted with the problem of the rising cost of living, a student of Christian Science found herself becoming fearful and discouraged. Increasingly difficult became the effort to keep within the margin of the amount allotted for the necessaries for home and family. So real seemed the trouble that in an outburst of self-pity and despair she thoughtlessly voiced her dismay to one who was, perhaps, feeling the heavy sense of responsibility even more than she herself.

The realization that she had apparently caused suffering and anxiety to another awakened in her a keen desire to gain more of the tranquil peace and calm confidence in good which she was learning to acquire through Christian Science, and from which at the moment she seemed to have been separated.

Looking back over the years that had passed since she had taken up the study of Christian Science, she remembered with gratitude how beautifully her every need had been met, and in what wonderful ways her home and family had been provided for and protected. When turning unreservedly to divine Love, the Giver of every good and perfect gift, for help and comfort, she invariably had experienced an abundance of good. Had she not learned in Christian Science that there is a harmonious solution to every problem?
