Bombay Sunday Standard

I respectfully request space in your paper to correct some false statements about Christian Science, made by a clergyman and recorded in a recent issue.

In the first place, it is obvious that your correspondent knows nothing whatever about Christian Science, and that his criticisms are based upon personal opinion.

Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, did, up to the time of her discovery of Christian Science in 1866, rely upon the help of others, and she expressed gratitude toward them. But it was upon her discovery of Christian Science that she received her healing. Thereafter, her Physician was God, Truth, as taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus, and elucidated in Christian Science. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, God is defined as follows (p. 587): "The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence,"—and man is His image and likeness.
