"Thy will be done"

Our whole human experience seems to be one of choosing whether we shall listen to the arguments of human will and all that it implies, or abide by the "still small voice" of Truth, which can always be heard if we but turn a receptive ear, no matter how loud error's false beliefs may seem to scream. "Choose you this day whom ye will serve." The task of choosing comes each day, each hour, each moment. And as we learn more about God and His unfailing goodness, we wake to realize that our good lies in letting the truth unfold in our thinking. Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 326), "If we wish to follow Christ, Truth, it must be in the way of God's appointing."

Human will is indeed a procurer of evil. It will be noted that when we hear ourselves or others voicing such thoughts as "I want," "I must have," it is quite likely that there is a sense of willful human planning, which must be overcome before a right, quiet, natural working out of the problem can be made manifest. We need to give up our personal desires as to how the problem will work out, and let God's will be done here on earth, right here, in our own experience.

Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, the Science of Mind, gives us this statement on pages 510 and 511 of Science and Health: "Science reveals only one Mind, and this one shining by its own light and governing the universe, including man, in perfect harmony." Surely we can trust God, the all-knowing, all-seeing Mind, sufficiently to let Him govern our desires each minute of the day, and so cast aside all personal will in our affairs. It is enough for us to know and prove, this very instant, that He is guiding and guarding our every thought, because we live constantly in the present, in the now of true being. All of God's ideas dwell in this perfect state of harmony and righteousness, and all are held in the right path. Therefore, we need not fear that our demonstration of God's presence can be frustrated by the actions or thoughts of others, since all are, in reality, God's beloved children.
