I began the study of Christian Science in order that I...
I began the study of Christian Science in order that I might become, in character, more nearly like a dearly loved relative whose life was devoted to the teachings of Christian Science.
While I was reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, a daughter of ours was healed of an annoying child's malady in just one treatment. This trouble had bothered her every night for the first nine years of her life, and now it has been nine years since she was healed. Our son was troubled with twelve attacks of tonsillitis before he was four years of age. He was supposed to have inherited this ailment; but as our understanding of Christian Science increased, the attacks became less frequent and finally disappeared. Last year the physical director in a junior high school examined him and declared his tonsils to be entirely normal. Five years ago another daughter was healed in one treatment of a sty that covered her eyelid so completely that the lashes were not visible. I took her to a practitioner one day at noon. The following morning the eyelid was clean and normal, and has been so ever since. This girl's hands were covered with warts, making them appear misshapen. Both she and I began declaring and realizing the truth that God's child could have no imperfection as an idea, image and likeness, of God. Within a few days her hands were normal and as shapely as they should be; the warts had vanished into their native nothingness.
Two years ago while I was sewing, one of the little girls took my scissors into another room. When I called for them she started quickly to bring them to me. At the same moment my youngest daughter ran from me to get them. The draperies between the two rooms prevented the girls from seeing each other and as they came together on either side of the curtains the scissors ran into the abdomen of the younger child. A friend in the home at the time advised that we rush the little one to the hospital as the situation seemed to be very serious. We did rush with her, not to a hospital, but to a Christian Science practitioner, who very quickly quieted our fears. Our baby was carried into the office of the practitioner, but after treatment, half an hour later, she could and did walk down the steps and run to the automobile. She ate supper, slept well, and the next morning attended Sunday school completely well.
