"Thy light is come"

A passing cloud obscures the dawning day,
And for a moment darkness seems to claim
The reigning power. 'Tis but a dream that came
To steal thy vision of the Christ away,
To blind thine eyes with sense-engulfing night.
Dark images of fear have seemed to be
An overwhelming host surrounding thee,
But shadows lose their form when comes the light.

Awake, belovéd one, awake and sing!
Rejoice that thou art even now within
Thy home, harmonious, where neither sin,
Nor pain, nor lack, its falsities may bring.
Though doubts assail, keep thou on lifted wing—
Love lights the pathway of thy wandering.
