For more than two years I had suffered excruciating pain in my back. I had tried chiropractic treatments without help. Then I turned to medical science, and finally had two small tumors cut off my back. After this the condition seemed to grow worse instead of better. Then the surgeon sent me to a bone specialist, saying he believed the condition to be tuberculosis of the spine.

I went to this bone specialist two or three times a week. He began what he called "process of elimination" treatments. First he gave me different kinds of pills, then came a series of manipulations, followed by electric cabinet treatments, violet rays, and so forth. They laced my feet and legs with adhesive tape for six weeks. Then they made me specially built arch supports and orthopedic shoes, and finally a brace for my back. X-ray pictures were taken, which showed the bone to be tubercular. At last I was told that the only thing left to do was to operate on the back, cut out the diseased portion of the bone, and graft the shin bone into its place. After this I was to lie in a plaster cast for six months, then in bed a year, and then they could not promise any definite results. It was all they had to offer. Everything else had been tried.

Much discouraged, I left this bone specialist and consulted a lady who was a spiritualist and masseuse. Her treatments, however, did not help me. All this time I was getting thinner and looking and feeling as though the end were close at hand. I went back to bone specialist and was trying to make up my mind to have the operation performed, when an aunt came to me and asked me to try Christian Science.
