Twenty-three years ago, after much mental and physical suffering, I was stricken with a severe form of fever. All material means and the kind attention of two doctors had failed to help me, and I had lost the God in whom I had always believed. Then I remembered having heard a friend mention Christian Science. This friend was asked to call, and after a helpful talk I decided to have Christian Science treatment. During the first talk, when I told her that I had lost God, she lovingly said that God had not failed me, but that my concept of Him was wrong. This was in the morning. That night I said good-by to my dear ones, but instead of passing on I had a few hours' sleep, which I had not had for four months. The next morning the friend called and gave me a present treatment, and also read to me from Isaiah, "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." As I listened, these words became a direct promise, for I was trying to wait on God. With this realization all pain, suffering, and weakness disappeared. When my friend left me she told me to get up. I dressed, had ordinary food with the family, which I had not done for some time, and went for a two hours' walk in the afternoon. I was free; I had found God.

Shortly after this healing our baby was taken very ill; two doctors attended the child for ten days, and finally gave me to understand there was no hope. Christian Science treatment was asked for, and in thirty-six hours the child was completely healed. Since then, through the teachings of Christian Science, which have given us a clearer understanding of God as Life, Truth, Love, Spirit, Mind, we have seen how to turn to God in all our problems, physical, mental, and financial, and to prove that He is a very present help at all times. This truth as taught in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy is helping me to be grateful to God for His unspeakable goodness; to Christ Jesus, who lived and proved the ever-presence and all-power of God, good, Love, and to Mrs. Eddy, who was so spiritually minded that she was able to understand Christ Jesus' teaching and give it to the world. My gratitude goes out to the friend who so lovingly helped me in the first experience.
