Love, the Vital Part of Healing

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE presents, among others, these two synonyms for God: Truth and Love. Indeed, they are main pillars in its teaching. Truth, pure and exact, is represented in His creation; and Love, the animating Principle, or Life, operating through the law of perpetual and harmonious action, governs and sustains the entire universe, including individual man.

Sometimes the first things that meet eye when one enters a Christian Science church are two inscriptions on the wall, the words of which are frequently those of John, "God is love," and those of Mary Baker Eddy, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 494).

To the receptive stranger these inscriptions are almost a revelation, awakening his consciousness and inviting reflection. The assurance of divine Love is addressed to him as to all. Perhaps he has a human need to be met, a problem to be solved, a healing to be gained, a sorrow to be solaced, a sin to be conquered, a lack to be filled.
