"Children of light"

"YE are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness," writes Paul in his epistle to the Thessalonians. What a glorious assurance to all! What comfort and solace it affords to those confronted with arguments of discouragement, grief, lack of employment, illness, misunderstanding!

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 511), "In divine Science, which is the seal of Deity and has the impress of heaven, God is revealed as infinite light." Infinite light obviously admits of no darkness, because there can be nothing more than infinity. In his real being, each individual dwells constantly in this infinite light, for, according to Scripture, "in him we live, and move, and have our being." Since spiritual understanding is always available to each one, surely it is unnecessary for anyone to parley with darkening arguments of mortal sense, as though they were actually present and powerful.

True, each person must meet and master the problems of everyday living as they are constantly presented. This requires courage, persistence, and humility, but in following the behests of Christian Science he finds that the way is plainly marked out, and the reward sure. The earnest student needs to start each day with the morning light of spiritual revelation in his thought, and for this purpose a systematic study of the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly is of inestimable value.
