Christian Science Houses in England and Wales

Owing to the difficulty of maintaining Christian Science Houses (nursing homes) without some financial support, non-dividend-paying trusts have been formed in England with the approval of The Christian Science Board of Directors, having as members all Christian Scientists who pay an annual subscription of one guinea, or more, who are willing to join. These subscriptions are intended to give a financial subsidy to the houses, which will enable them to be carried on without the necessity of charging guests more than moderate fees.

At the present time Hawthorne House, London, is the only home which has been opened under the auspices of a trust, although it is expected that others will follow in due course.

The trusts and the houses opened by them, and the other Christian Science Houses in England, are not maintained by The Mother Church, but The Mother Church appoints the Committee on Christian Science Houses in London to see that the provisions of an Act of Parliament, requiring that Christian Science Houses be maintained in accordance with the Principle and practice of Christian Science, are carried out.
