I am grateful to God, to Christ Jesus, and to Mary Baker Eddy...

I am grateful to God, to Christ Jesus, and to Mary Baker Eddy for the truth which has been revealed to us in Christian Science. This truth heals. It solves all human problems. It contains the answer to every right query of the human heart. Christ Jesus assured us of this when he said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Mrs. Eddy adds her confirmation of this statement on page 494 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," in these glowing words, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." Jesus said, "Come unto me." We must therefore be willing to go unto the Christ in deed and in truth in order to avail ourselves of these promises. Similarly, we must be willing to turn to divine Love completely and unreservedly.

Some time ago I decided to take a certain course of action. The decision was reached after earnest mental work. It seemed a very right thing to do, but I was not able to get my peace about it. Arguments pro and con kept coming to me and unsettling me. One evening a cold manifested itself. In a short time it became very annoying. I then went to work as we are taught in Christian Science, but could see no light, as the other problem was continually present in my thought. Finally one thing became clear: I was entertaining an inharmonious condition in consciousness, and as long as that condition was accepted I was barring myself from harmony and peace. I saw that I must rout this claim of error and replace it with the knowledge of God's omnipotence and of the eternal rightness of His commands, and claim the calm, sure poise which is ours when we listen to the promptings of Truth and walk steadfastly in His way. I saw that man is God's idea, and therefore peace, harmony, the kingdom of heaven were mine. I prayed earnestly to see the truth and received a final, conclusive, and satisfying answer. At the same time I became conscious of the fact that the cold had completely vanished.

My gratitude for this experience is not alone because of the physical healing and the direct answer to prayer, but also for the clarity with which error's claim of a modus operandi was exposed. When we accept in consciousness worry, doubt, indecision, fear, in fact any of the blundering arguments of the supposititious carnal mind, we lay ourselves open to an objectification of this error in a material form. This material manifestation is as unreal as the mental chaos which seems to cause it, and we, in Christian Science, are aware of the privilege of turning to God, of turning away from the carnal mind to the divine Mind. This privilege is open to all who care to avail themselves of it. Its exercise casts out error and meets our every need.
