I was fortunate enough to be born into a Christian Science...
I was fortunate enough to be born into a Christian Science family, so I have known nothing else. I have had a great many wonderful healings, and am particularly grateful for a demonstration of God's care that I had over two years ago. One Friday afternoon when I was riding horseback, I was thrown off my horse and knocked unconscious. Somehow the horse managed to kick me in the back of my head before my companion could reach me, and I also got a bad cut over one eye.
My companion hailed a passing car and took me to an emergency hospital. When my sister was called, she came and brought a practitioner and a friend who is a good Scientist. My mother was not located for two hours, and the hospital authorities would not move me until she came. When she arrived, the doctor told her that it was a miracle that I was still alive, and that it seemed best to take me to a regular hospital, so that I could have my head cleaned and bandaged and have X rays taken. The next morning I regained consciousness and the X rays were taken. No fracture was found. To mortal sense it was a serious concussion; and the doctor told me that I should have to be very quiet, and that I should not be able to leave the hospital for at least three weeks. In spite of these so-called material laws, I was able, through the loving work of the practitioner, to walk out of the hospital on Monday at noon. I have never had any unpleasant aftereffects from this experience, the scar near my eye entirely disappeared, and the wound on my head healed completely. I called on the doctor a week later, and he was amazed at my recovery.
I have also been healed of appendicitis, trench mouth, mastoiditis, ptomaine poisoning, and a number of other ills, besides various so-called childhood diseases. The healing of trench mouth was a demonstration over fear and the belief of contagion. With the help of a practitioner a serious case of that disease was healed the day after it was first manifested during a dental examination. When I went to another dentist for examination he told me that I did not have the trouble, and that he did not think I had ever had it, because it was impossible to get over it so quickly.
