If "Observer" is sincerely interested in the life and teaching...

If "Observer" is sincerely interested in the life and teaching of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, may I recommend him to read her book. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which contains the whole teaching of Christian Science; also "Mary Baker Eddy: A Life Size Portrait," by Lyman P. Powell, an Episcopal clergyman, not a Christian Scientist. These books may be borrowed from any Christian Science Reading Room.

Mrs. Eddy discovered, taught, and practiced in her own life the fact that any wrong physical condition can be healed without resort to materia medica, by the application of the truth as referred to by Christ Jesus when he said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make your free." As we progress in our knowledge of Truth, so we are able to demonstrate the power of Truth to free us from all inharmonious conditions, physical, mental, or moral—whether they concern our lives, our home, or our business.

Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 253, 254), "The divine demand, 'Be ye therefore perfect,' is scientific, and the human footsteps leading to perfection are indispensable." She adds, "God requires perfection, but not until the battle between Spirit and flesh is fought and the victory won. To stop eating, drinking, or being clothed materially before the spiritual facts of existence are gained step by step, is not legitimate. When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path. Imperfect mortals grasp the ultimate of spiritual perfection slowly; but to begin aright and to continue the strife of demonstrating the great problem of being, is doing much."
