A copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was handed to me and I was asked to return the book to the Christian Science Reading Room. Merely through curiosity I glanced through the book and read parts of it here and there. I became interested and started at the beginning, and a beautiful new world was revealed to me.

At that time I was going to a doctor every day; an eye, ear, and nose specialist one day, and a regular physician the next. I was having much difficulty with my ears, and the doctor said I had a very bad ear, as the eardrum was pulled out of place, and that eventually I should be deaf in this ear. The ear trouble was very painful and I had difficulty in hearing, especially over the telephone. I was anemic, and also was supposed to have gallstones. The latter trouble was very severe, and when I had these attacks the doctor would stay with me several hours at a time. He would give me a hypodermic, then wait until the effect wore off and give me another. I was to go to a clinic for a complete medical examination, because the doctor said I should have to have an operation.

However, from the very first day I began to read Science and Health, I did not go back to either doctor. I was sure that here was the truth, and felt that I was in the very presence of the healing Christ. It was a glorious experience; my physical difficulties vanished. I also left off wearing glasses and have worked in an office ever since, and do not have any trouble with my eyes or ears. At the time of my healing I knew but one Christian Scientist, who had been reading Science literature for only about six months before I started.
