God Is the Only Power

The omnipresence of God means to the student of Christian Science the constant presence of good, which enables him to express assurance, steadfastness, and resourcefulness. Reflecting the qualities which belong to divine Mind and are expressed through the divine idea, man, enables the student to prove his spiritual sonship so clearly, and brings to him such a sense of security, that his thought is lifted safely above the snares and pitfalls of material sense.

Lacking an understanding of God as the only power, we in belief give to evil such power as it seems to have. There is really no power in an unrighteous thought; it can do nothing, if it is not accepted. But when we support it with the strength of our belief in it, then it seems to have power over us, for we have yielded ourselves servants to obey it. But a good thought, a righteous, spiritually true thought, comes from the divine Mind and reflects the power of God. Mrs. Eddy declares in "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 9), "The spiritual power of a scientific, right thought, without a direct effort, an audible or even a mental argument, has oftentimes healed inveterate diseases."

God is the only power. Yet, when tempted by difficulties, disease, bad habits, and the like, mortals are prone to become fearful lest these things have power to harm them. But if they quietly know, without doubt, that Love's angelic hosts are present to save, and that their relationship with the Father is intact, these truths will put the enemy to rout and restore the right sense of man's dominion. Paul's gentle admonition, "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good," may be the angel message which comes to us. Thus the victory is won by the power of God.
