Spiritual Unfoldment
A Young woman stood at a window looking out on what seemed to her a dreary prospect. She saw a gardener planting dahlia tubers in the garden below and became interested in his work. Later on, as she thought of this, she gained a helpful lesson in watching the growth of the dahlias and other beautiful flowers. Before long the shoots began to make their appearance above the ground, out of darkness into the sunshine and light, and in orderly unfoldment the plants eventually bore luxurious and colorful flowers.
The young woman applied these lessons to her own thinking. How necessary it was for her to push upward and outward through the darkness of self-pity and regret into the light and love of God! By faithfully studying and applying the truths of Christian Science she would grow out of the darkness of wrong thinking into the light, joy, and warmth of God's loving care.
Even though mortal opinions and the so-called laws of mortality may seem to overwhelm thought, divine Love supplies all the courage and fidelity necessary to turn away from darkness to light. When the desire is for spirituality and peace, there is no power that can prevent one's growth in the beauty of holiness. It is within the reach of every individual to see the nothingness of error and the loveliness and harmony of God's creation.
