Continuous Work

God's work, which is the only real work, is going on harmoniously, and without interruption. Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" makes this pertinent statement (p. 263): "When mortal man blends his thoughts of existence with the spiritual and works only as God works, he will no longer grope in the dark and cling to earth because he has not tasted heaven." To blend means to harmonize. Obviously, then, to bring our thoughts into harmony with the real or spiritual, it is necessary that we understand the true nature of God and of man as His image and likeness.

One unacquainted with the truth of spiritual being may believe himself to be a creature of circumstance, placed upon this earth and left to work out his problem of existence as best he can by dint of human effort. This mistaken sense is keenly felt when one reaches maturity and the problems of supply, place, and employment loom before him, involving, perhaps, the responsibility of caring for others.

If a needed job or position is not apparent, one may always improve his time by overcoming erroneous conditions of thought, and thus be better equipped for service. It is well to stop and remember that God's plan for His children is best discerned by the overcoming of thoughts which tend toward self, fear, apathy, human will, greed, traits of temperament, desire for material things and material ease, and by bringing out in one's experience such qualities of thought as alertness, gratitude, expectancy, loving-kindness, and consideration for others; also, by gaining a genuine desire for service in the way God points out.
