Affluence
Christian Science transfigures the old sense of a world peopled with saints, sinners, and a host of intermediate types, and throws light on the human extremes of poverty and superfluity. It demonstrates to humanity the ever-presence of divine Love and its power of redemption on behalf of the sick, the sinful, and those in want.
Many regard themselves as pawns of fate, deprived by sickness, fractious temperament, business, or other human conditions, of the opportunity to enjoy harmonious living. Christian Science deals compassionately and effectually with this mental penury, due solely to ignorance of God and objectified as sickness, poverty, failure. It imparts to its students the scientific understanding of Deity and teaches each one how to reflect the divine nature. In this reflection of God lies the secret of dominion over all discord, subjective and objective. By revealing God, Christian Science also reveals God's image, whose natural heritage is affluence.
In speaking of Christ Jesus and his healing works, Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 54): "Through the magnitude of his human life, he demonstrated the divine Life. Out of the amplitude of his pure affection, he defined Love. With the affluence of Truth, he vanquished error." The affluence of Truth is present to awaken and set men free from moral, physical, and financial bondage. The ministry of Christian Science, like that of the master Christian, is one of restoration of the rights of man, and this restoration puts to flight the ghost of deprivation.
