Christian Science came into our home when I was so young that I remember no other teaching; therefore it has always been natural for me to turn to God for the solution of all my problems. Words fail to express my gratitude for this Science.

I wish to relate an experience which I had some years ago. It taught me as never before to listen for the "still small voice" of Truth, and that as we hear and are obedient to that voice and follow its directing, the results will be blessed.

Our young son, who was about two and a half years old, had been passing through a rather disobedient and destructive age. He was continually running away. As a result of the disturbed mental condition of both the child and myself, a very irritating rash manifested itself on his skin. Help was lovingly given by a practitioner, and while she was working, Truth unfolded to her the specific need for handling the belief of misdirected energy. She referred me to Science and Health (p. 249): "Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life and recognizing no mortal nor material power as able to destroy. Let us rejoice that we are subject to the divine 'powers that be.'" After studying these lines, I realized clearly that there was only the divine energy of Spirit, and that this energy could not be misdirected or expressed through disobedience, destruction, irritation, and lack of receptivity. I knew that the child of God, who was subject to the "divine 'powers that be'" was receptive to the truth and expressed obedience, meekness, purity, teachableness, and spirituality.
