I should like to express my gratitude for Christian Science
I should like to express my gratitude for Christian Science. In a Sentinel I read the statement, "Secret victories known only to ourselves are precious." I have had many secret victories which are indeed precious to me and fill my heart with gratitude for the privilege of studying Christian Science. From early childhood I was intensely afraid of the dark. To be left alone, or to enter a dark room, meant indescribable anguish. This fear clung to me until about two years ago, when through my earnest study of Science it vanished, though no specific work was done.
I want to take this opportunity also to express my deep appreciation and gratitude for the loving, tireless help received from practitioners in the past, when I left most of the mental work for them to do, calling them at all hours and always being met with loving words of comfort. About thirteen years ago I was saved from a severe nervous breakdown through the work of a practitioner. I did not miss a day's work, and in a comparatively short time I was entirely free. To this practitioner I owe endless gratitude, for she gave me lovingly a great deal of her time.
About eight years ago my brother-in-law was taken suddenly very ill in the night. A physician was called, who pronounced the trouble ulcers of the stomach. He advised an immediate operation, stating that otherwise death would result. After he left, my sister called a Christian Science practitioner, and by the next morning the hemorrhages had entirely ceased and her husband was comfortable, although still very weak. Due to the great fear of other members of the family, the physician was called again that morning, and when he arrived he was utterly astounded at the patient's improvement. He said he really did not expect to find him alive, and doubted if an operation would have saved him. The doctor was not called again, and under the practitioner's treatment the patient continued to improve and was back at work in about three week's time. Previously he could eat but little and that with much discomfort, but now he can eat what he wants and any amount he desires, and is in better health than he has ever been.
