With a sincere desire to help others as I have been...
With a sincere desire to help others as I have been helped, I write this testimony.
When I first heard of Christian Science I thought it absurd to think that God could heal our diseases now as He did when Jesus, our great Exemplar, was here. I refused to read any Christian Science literature, but read what the critics had to say about it; so I criticized and condemned, and was ignorant as to what this Science really is.
Soon after this I suffered a second case of nervous prostration, and the way seemed dark indeed. I thought that the only way out would be to pass on, so I prayed to die. At this time I had a sister who was interested in Christian Science, and who had received a healing from injuries sustained in a storm. She lovingly asked me to have Christian Science treatment, since she knew that the medical doctors had done all they could for me, to no avail. I was so antagonistic to what I thought Christian Science to be that I felt insulted, and told her that I should rather die than dishonor God in any such way. I had a brother who was a member of the same orthodox church as I, and he was also opposed to Christian Science. However, because he wanted me to do everything possible to get my healing, he too asked me to try Christian Science, saying that he knew nothing about it, but that since our sister had been healed, I too could be healed, for God was no respecter of persons.
