"The good things of life"

A Student of Christian Science, temporarily discouraged, was heard to say, "Here am I, after striving faithfully in the line of light these many years, with so little to show for all my labor; whilst others, less sincere, have so many of the good things of life."

"The good things of life"! These words arrested the downward footsteps of his thought and led to a healthier interrogation: What are "the good things of life"? Would "a sound mind" be considered one of "the good things of life"? Most people would consider "a sound mind" indispensable to the appreciation and attainment of "the good things of life."

Christian Scientists accept the following fundamental truth, revealed by Mary Baker Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 469): "There can be but one Mind, because there is but one God." Since there is but one Mind, this Mind is the Mind of man. Man has, then, neither by choice nor by accident, but of necessity, "a sound mind."
