Our Relationship to the World
[Original article in German]
PROBABLY most people realize that the finding of the right means and methods of living harmoniously with their neighbors is of great importance in their lives. Occasions of friction, discord, anxiety, and sorrow arise from a lack of knowledge of the real man. It is of prime importance for us to know the real spiritual man as he is, in God's sight. In this way our present sense of existence takes on a far happier aspect.
Perhaps an individual would like to flee his environment when it does not suit him, believing that he would find things easier in other surroundings. But he may find that a change of environment does not necessarily solve the question. The point is, What should be our attitude with respect to our fellow men, if we wish to establish harmonious relations with them? Through finding the correct answer to this question we find the way of dominion over our surroundings. We can help to transform our surroundings if we make the right change in our own thinking. As we recognize the real man as God's image and likeness, we learn how to think from the spiritual standpoint, and so deal rightly with the problems of human relationship and environment.
Christian Science further teaches us that man is governed by God. On page 420 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says, "Truth not error, Love not hate, Spirit not matter, governs man."
