Real Selfhood—Goodness

In "No and Yes" Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 26), "Man's real ego, or selfhood, is goodness." These words are worthy of profound study, for every student of Christian Science is daily endeavoring to demonstrate for himself and others this real or spiritual selfhood, which is goodness.

Christian Science reveals the truth about God and man. It enables us to realize that because God made man in His own image and likeness, and because God is infinite good, naturally the creation of God must be and always is good. As this truth is accepted, and thanks to God are given that we have only one selfhood, and that one includes all that is good, much freedom and joy are experienced.

With this right knowing each one of us can rise above the false suggestions of a so-called mortal selfhood, subject to sin, sickness, and death. We can retreat into the consciousness of our real selfhood, which is never in matter or the flesh, but is eternally in Mind. Here we have the privilege of following in the footsteps of Jesus, who could "find rest from unreal trials in the conscious reality and royalty of his being,—holding the mortal as unreal, and the divine as real" (ibid., p. 36).
