Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication

Southern California.

An editorial comment in the Angeles Mesa News of Los Angeles discussed a list of papers that had been printed in Time, and said, in part: "Another in this list of great newspapers is The Christian Science Monitor, and justly so. Nearly unanimous is the appreciation of this newspaper which, through careful discrimination between purely sensational and pertinent news, has brought precision and meaning out of the daily chaos of human activities."

The right hand of Christian fellowship was extended to Christian Scientists by their fellow citizens in Newport Beach when, for the fourth consecutive year, a First Reader of the local Christian Science church was selected to present a Scripture reading in the graduation service of the Newport Harbor Union High School. Again, the status of Christian Science as a religion was recognized by an important college in this district when a student at the college, whose mother is Second Reader in the local Christian Science church, was granted one of the scholarships that are awarded annually to the sons and daughters of ministers of religion and other religious workers.

A minister of a Christian church in Highland Park made favorable comments about Christian Science in a sermon. On two occasions ministers in Pasadena have agreed to the singing of one of Mrs. Eddy's hymns in a funeral service, and have announced our Leader's name as the author of the hymn.

A minister of the Dutch Reformed Church at Hynes, after reading a translation in the Dutch language of a religious article on the Home Forum page of the Monitor, wrote to a Christian Scientist in part: "Thanks for sending me the article we discussed. Again, in reading it over in both languages, I became impressed with the correctness of the translation. I must say this in honor of Christian Science that they turn out first-class work, ... there is nothing cheap about them."

A radio listener, who expressed gratitude for Christian Science programs over KFAC, said, "They are an inspiration and comfort to me, and a blessing, I am sure, to all who hear them, bringing as they do a daily healing message of truth and love to a troubled world."

Canal Zone.

The Star and Herald published one entire article from The Christian Science Monitor's Magazine Section. This paper frequently reprints editorials from the Monitor, giving due credit. No adverse criticisms were printed in this paper during the past year.

A half-hour program was radiocast from Station HP5J. Electrical Transcription No. 1 was used, also an article from The Herald of Christian Science. The announcement of a lecture was radiocast at this time. Many expressions of gratitude were received from Scientists and non-Scientists for this program.

The public library presents an excellent opportunity for spreading the gospel of Christian Science. All the Canal Zone libraries have been completely supplied with our Leader's works and "approved books." While visiting one of these libraries, a gentleman picked up Dr. Powell's biography of Mrs. Eddy, and through the reading of it his prejudice against Christian Science was healed. He was then willing to read Science and Health and has become a student of Christian Science.
