"A great calm"

The understanding of Christian Science, even in a small degree, brings one an inward peace and quietness in spite of the world's strife and turmoil. It spreads a table before us in the wilderness of fear and confusion.

The Bible tells us that on one occasion, when the disciples were at sea, and a storm came upon them, they were filled with fear. But Jesus "arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm." The understanding of divine Mind produces "a great calm."

Sometimes, when we are in the country viewing a beautiful scene, we feel a sense of quietness and serenity. It is a refreshing experience to be treasured. We cannot always go to the country when we want quiet. But wherever we may be, Christian Science reveals the presence of God, and we feel "a great calm." When even a little of the spiritual understanding of Christ unfolds to us, the turmoil and strife which may have previously held our attention become less important, and the truth about God begins to absorb our attention. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee."
