In his letter of March 29 your correspondent's first point concerns "the nature of the principle discovered by Mrs. Eddy."

The word "principle" means cause, origin, source; and a study of the Bible reveals that God is the divine Principle of all that really exists, the great cause which enabled Christ Jesus to perform his mighty works. Through her consecrated study of the Scriptures, Mrs. Eddy perceived this great truth and gave her discovery to the world in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." This book has unlocked the Bible to countless thousands and revealed to them the way in which they can find for themselves what God is and what He does for those who seek Him with spiritual understanding. On page 465 of this textbook she answers the question "What is God?" as follows: "God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love."

Those who would emulate the works of our Master can only do so according to the degree of their understanding of his teachings. Many Christian Scientists have proved this in their daily lives, and they are so grateful for better health, improved character, and greater happiness, that they are not in any way discouraged by any refusal, such as that of our critic, to accept the truth of their testimonies of healing, given in the Christian Science periodicals and at their Wednesday evening services.
