Shortly after starting to attend a Christian Science Sunday...

Shortly after starting to attend a Christian Science Sunday School, while playing in a strange home, I plunged headlong down a steep flight of narrow cellar steps, on to the cement floor below. Consciousness left me, except for a brief moment, when the words, "God is Love," seemed to be printed on a bushel basket above my head. When consciousness returned, a doctor was bending over me and the mother of my playmate was crying. I sat up, declaring there was no pain. The doctor shook his head, replying, "I can't find a thing wrong, but it seems incredible considering the distance she fell." Those words, "God is Love," as they appeared on the wall of the Sunday school, are still clear in my memory.

The same year, when I was playing on an old-fashioned hitching bar, my left arm was broken. My mother called a practitioner, but father insisted that a doctor set the arm. It was so completely healed by the next morning that I swung my arm freely and removed the bandages, which were no longer needed. The amazed doctor declared that he never would have believed that the arm had been broken if he himself had not set it.

Thanks to Christian Science, the necessary funds for a college education were made available, as well as a happy home and many friends in a strange city, after graduation. The promise given by Christ Jesus was held in thought continually: "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."
