It has been my privilege to be born and brought up in a Christian Science home, and at the outset I wish to express gratitude for the spiritual instruction and example which my parents set before me all along the way. Throughout my school and college life the protective and preventive power of Truth was most conspicuously demonstrated for me, and now that I have a home and family of my own, I appreciate more and more the consecration and unselfed love which made this possible.

A few years ago, when I had just started on a term as Second Reader in a branch church, I was suddenly rendered physically helpless by a complaint which was diagnosed as inflammatory rheumatism by a physician acquaintance who called in a friendly spirit. This was my first experience of the kind, and was a great blow to my personal pride, for I had much to learn in humility and perseverance. The bodily condition was completely and permanently healed in a comparatively short time, with the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner and a Christian Science nurse, and I learned the meaning of Mrs. Eddy's words in Science and Health (p. 66), "Trials are proofs of God's care," because I was forced to prove what real consecration means; and the result has been much happy growth, and also service in the Cause. The Revised Hymnal had just come out at this time, and I shall never forget what courage and peace I found between its covers.

In the bearing and rearing of four children, Christian Science has been invaluable to me. It is so comforting to know that there is the one Principle to turn to in the solving of all problems, physical, mental, or financial, and that no matter what the future may present, the same omnipotent Principle is always present to help us meet every test and work out a perfect salvation.
