Resurrection

How shall we spend the night
Before the breaking light
Of Easter, gleaming,
Brings redeeming?

Shall we not fill a jar,
Although there be no star,
With sacrifices
Sweet like spices?

Instead of frankincense,
We shall bring confidence
That Life is giving
Us true living.

Instead of cinnamon,
We shall bring victories won,
When self-opinion
Yields dominion.

Instead of myrrh or nard
We shall bring peace unmarred.
Self-will forsaking,
Patience taking.

And then the open tomb
Will show, instead of gloom,
True self devising
Its arising.
