Tidens Tegn

Tidens Tegn of June 20 contains an interview with a professor in which Christian Science is mentioned. The professor states that millions have been "changed" through Christian Science; but he is of the opinion that "changes" are not "conversions" in a Christian sense, and that Christian Science "has almost nothing to do with Christianity."

By Christianity is generally understood the religion of Christ Jesus, the essence of which is contained in the Sermon on the Mount; and in all his doings the Christian is striving to live in accordance with this teaching. The Christian Science church differs not in this respect from other Christian denominations.

If the professor had had closer knowledge of the millions who have been changed through Christian Science, he would have known that the changes generally go much deeper than that people who used to be "cross and unkind persons" have become "radiant and lovable people," although this in itself is not a little thing. There are multitudes who by Christian Science have been changed from physical or moral wrecks into healthy, upright, and useful individuals, or who, from being indifferent, from being infidels or blasphemers, have experienced wonderful spiritual renewal. Is it too much to say that this is the fruit of "conversion," or of genuine and practical Christianity?
