In 1910 I was visiting in a home in which a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy had been left for my friend to read; and one evening I picked it up to see what the teachings of Christian Science were, as I had heard of it, but did not know its teachings.

I opened it at page 1, and after reading to the end of the page I found that there was much food for thought and study, so I started systematic study, using Webster's dictionary. It took me three weeks to finish the chapter on Prayer; and to my surprise I found I had been healed of enlarged and stiffened joints, from which I had been suffering for two years, having had several severe attacks of rheumatism some years before. When this healing took place I do not know, but at the end of three weeks I was going downstairs normally, and then I looked at my hands and they too were normal. How grateful I was for this proof of divine Love and also for the understanding I had gained! When I started to study I had had no thought of a healing, for my desire had been only to gain an understanding of the teaching of Christian Science.

Since that time I have had and have witnessed healings of all kinds of erroneous beliefs. The first proof I had was so absolute that I have never doubted that if the truth, as taught in Christian Science, is properly and earnestly applied, error will be overcome, as Truth never fails.
