There recently appeared a report of a lecture in which the lecturer referred to Christian Science as "modern 'magic' " and stated, "This cult has taken hold of a truth and exaggerated its applicability beyond the limits of reason." This statement is not correct, for the applicability of Truth cannot be exaggerated. It is applicable to every phase of existence. The divine Mind, or God, is the only true Mind; and every idea emanating from this Mind is true eternally. Sin, disease, and death are not ideas of God. They are beliefs of the carnal mind, which St. Paul termed "enmity against God," and are, therefore, temporal falsities which can be destroyed by the spiritual understanding of the truth of being. When ten lepers came to Christ Jesus to be healed, they went away cleansed. What destroyed the leprosy? The truth which Jesus knew destroyed the false beliefs of the lepers, and these false beliefs having been destroyed, their physical manifestation inevitably disappeared. Christian Science is revealing to thousands the spiritual method of Christ Jesus in healing sin and sickness. Mary Baker Eddy rediscovered the divine Principle and rule by which our Master worked, and has given this discovery to the world in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Thousands are daily studying this book in conjunction with the Bible, and as a result are proving their dominion over evil and its effects. There is no magic in these demonstrations, any more than in the demonstrations of mathematics.
